After Kėdainiai became a property of protestant branch of the Dukes Radziwills family in the early seventeenth century, Scottish traders saw the attraction of settling in the town. Duke Krzysztof Radziwill (1585–1640) developed the town into a Protestant cultural centre, establishing a Calvinist church and working for the protection of his coreligionists across Lithuania. The first Scots to arrive had served the Radziwill s as mercenaries and as part of their personal guard, and in the presence of the Calvinist church the growing Scottish community in Kėdainiai could feel welcome and secure.

LT01 Eaglais Albannach
An dèidh do Kedainiai a thoirt do sheilbh meur Phròstanach de theaghlach Radziwills tràth san tseachdamh linn deug, chunnaic malairtich Albannach cho tarraingeach ’s a bha e, tuineachadh sa bhaile. Leasaich Diùc Krzysztof Radziwill (1585–1640) am baile mar ionad cultarach Pròstanach, a’ stèidheachadh eaglais Chalbhanach agus ag obair airson dìon a chur air a cho-chreideamhaich air feadh Liotuàinia. Bha a’ chiad Albannaich a thàinig don dùthaich a’ frithealadh an teaghlaich Radziwills mar dhiùlannaich agus mar phàirt de an geàird phearsanta, agus ann an làthaireachd na h-eaglais Chalbhanaich, dh’fhaodadh a’ choimhearsnachd Albannach a bha a’ sìor fhàs ann an Ke˙dainiai, a bhith a’ faireachdainn tèarainte agus di-beathte.
