John Galt returns to Scotland!
The latest Canadian panel has been escorted back to Scotland!
After travelling nearly 3,500 miles, the latest of the panels to arrive from Canada has reached our base in Scotland in the safe hands of stitcher Alison Jackson (above left, with Andrew Crummy and Gillian Hart).
The Guelph panel has been stitched in Ontario by members of the Guelph branch of the Canadian Embroiderers Guild. It tells the story of the considerable contribution Scots made to Ontario, not least the founding of the city of Guelph by the Scottish writer John Galt in 1827. This story, like so many which will be depicted in the Tapestry, is considered very important to the local community but is less well known in Scotland. The full story of how the stitchers in Guelph got involved has already been reported, and you can catch up here.
