Glasgow is hosting a fantastic Commonwealth Games, and thanks to National Lottery players we are able to celebrate the occasion in style here in Prestonpans, home of the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry.
We’ve received support from National Lottery Awards for All in celebration of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games to run a series of in-person and online activities connected to the games.
Our volunteers at the museum are having great fun monitoring the progress of the teams from those Commonwealth countries which feature in the tapestry itself, using our results boards in the Battle of Prestonpans Museum to log their medal results.
Meanwhile, youngsters visiting the museum have been busy making their own versions of the Commonwealth Games batons and torches. Our team used the progress of the teams as an opportunity to share panels and stories from the Tapestry, bringing our social media pages alive as the competition continued.
Members of our volunteer team gathered together to enjoy the Opening Ceremony projected live on our big screen, surrounded by panels of the Tapestry, and celebrated the end of the games with a very special evening at the Bombay Bar & Grill – housed in the historic Prestoungrange Gothenburg – where we symbolised the handing of the Games over to India by installing a special exhibition of the Indian panels in the Tapestry. We decided to show the Pakistan panels at the same time, creating a wonderfully vibrant display in the function suite above the restaurant.
