Stitchers (Houston, Texas): Michele King, John Milligan.
John Milligan’s first climb was around the age of 5 or 6, on Kings Seat in Tillicoultry Glen. By 13 he undertook his first solo ascent near Luss. The view across Loch Lomond inspired him and two years later Milligan was off to Outward Bound for a month in Burghead. That gave him the unbounded confidence to seek ever bigger heights. Since then he has been climbing all his life, reaching the 18,000ft Mount Everest base camp aged 53. The ice axe and flag in the panel are Mulligan’s most prized possessions, having accompanied him on every climb for over fifty years.
