CA09 – Fuadach nan Gaidheal

Stitcher: Helen Brodie (Arisaig)

This panel is based on a design by Lachie Robinson (13) for a competition at Mallaig High School. Fuadach nan Gàidheal is the Gaelic term for the Highland Clearances, which saw large numbers of people from the Western Highlands displaced as landlords gave their land over to sheep farming. The panel shows crofts being razed and flocks being brought onto the land, set around a poignant scene of farewell. The journey across the Atlantic was hazardous and uncomfortable, and the fate that awaited those who departed was unknown to them.

CA09 Fuadach nan Gàidheal
Tha am pannal seo stèidhichte air dealbhadh le Lachie Robinson (13) airson farpais ann an ÀrdSgoil Mhalaig. Is e Fuadach nan Gàidheal an abairt a bhitear a’ cleachdadh airson an fhuadaich a ghabh àite air a’ Ghàidhealtachd, a chunnaic àireamhan mòra de dhaoine à Taobh Siar na Gàidhealtachd air an cur às an dachaighean, agus uachdarain a’ gabhail an fhearainn thairis airson tuathanachas chaorach. Tha am pannal a’ taisbeanadh chroitean gan sgrios agus treudan chaorach gan toirt air an fhearann, air a shuidheachadh mun cuairt sealladh drùidhteach a’ fàgail soraidh slàn. Bha an t-slighe tarsainn a’ Chuain Shiar làn chunnartan agus mì-chofhurtail, gun fhios aig an fheadhainn a dh’fhalbh dè bha an dàn dhaibh.
