The Culture Minister heads the line up as the Tapestry hosts its first full exhibition.

It has been a significant week for the Diaspora Tapestry project, as we invited Scottish Culture Minister Fiona Hyslop MSP to officially unveil the first completed tapestry panels.

You can see a video of the Minister’s visit here.

The Scotsman also created a video at the unveiling.

The event, held on Monday morning, also marked the first real chance for the public to look at the Tapestry. Keen followers of our news stories will recall that the Gothenburg panels were briefly revealed upon their return from Sweden, but they have now been revealed in a totally fresh light after being trimmed, lined and backed for formal display. And they were joined by the panels from Barga, Tuscany, fresh from their journey from Italy and a true delight to behold!

The panels have been drawing considerable interest all week, where they have been shown alongside the famous Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry, and the public were joined by the media in their excitement at this glimpse of what is to come in 2014…

The exhibition was also visited by ladies from NKS, a community organisation for South Asian women. They had come seeking inspiration, as they will be working with us on some of the panels depicting links with Pakistan and India. We await with excitement as their own panels develop over the coming weeks.
