The Prestoungrange Gothenburg is a special place for us. Not only is it a fabulous building in its own right, with a history dating back to 1908; it also served as the community’s artistic and cultural hub for many important years following its refurbishment in 2004. It was within these muralled walls that the first conversations were held to plan first the Prestonpans Tapestry, and then the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry.

We are therefore delighted to have been able to take this unexpected opportunity to exhibit the whole of the tapestry across two whole floors of The Goth.

Cianalas ’s Dòchas | Homesickness and Hope

SIX panels from the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry are featured in this special exhibition exploring the theme of Hebridean emigration, on display in both Benbecula and Stornoway.

Cianalas ’s Dòchas | Homesickness and Hope showcases the stories of those who left island shores behind and highlights this important aspect of Hebridean history. Topics explored in the exhibition include the fur trade and exploration, the gold rushes, mining, the experience of women and child migration. The exhibition also considers the impact on the Indigenous Peoples whose lands were settled.
